I love… word art and prints for our family home

May 23, 2018

We moved house a little over a year ago to what we think will be our forever home. Since then, we have set about renovating, designing, decorating and planning rooms to make the space more “us”. Although we have done a lot of decorating (plastering, wallpapering, painting and picking furniture and lighting pieces), I’ve really enjoyed searching and buying things for the walls.

My taste is quite simple but I love a good quote or saying – inspirational, motivational personal or just decorative! So since our walls have been picture-worthy, I’ve been on the search for some prints that will fit in nicely with our fresh new living and dining area and also for our little one’s bedrooms.

Now I heart the squares of Instagram; I love how it connects people, you can find inspiration and ideas for home, food and life. You get to know people who have similar interests, or children who are the same ages, simply by chance and it’s this browsing (definitely not stalking!) that led me to some very cool small businesses run by amazing women. Their Insta-Stories are also hilarious if you want to check them out!

The Best Years
The Best Years is run by mum Alice, and has a whole range of fantastically priced products ranging from prints, to banners and baby blankets, all of which can be personalised. I’ve got a lovely little heart banner hanging between my windows and I’ve got some name and nursery prints on my Wish List for when I concentrate my efforts on the girls’ rooms. What’s more, there are even some free printables on the site, which you can print and frame yourself.

In No Particular Order – INPO
Vickie is absolutely hilarious when I watch her stories and I only found her on Instagram thanks to a recommendation from a friend. I bought her gorgeous ‘home’ print for our front room as I wanted something simple and effective. She specialises in writing words in one line and encourages people to share their styling via the hashtag #justaline.

The Norm
Natalie produces lovely hand lettered prints and patterns via her business, The Norm. I found her account after the amazing Clemmie Hooper (Mother of Daughters) shared her family name print – I just had to get one. As it’s personalised, the price was slightly higher than some other prints I have bought, but I adore it and it’s something that will be kept forever.

Kelly’s Art Studio
Kelly’s Art Studio produces handmade and hand-painted gifts and I bought her gorgeous family plaque to complete our picture wall, which runs up our stairs. You pick the names or quote you want on the plaque and customise the colours to suit your décor and Kelly hand-paints them. They look fabulous on the wall and her Instagram feed shows many different designs and colours for inspiration.

Some others I follow and that also feature on my Wish List are:

With Love Teddy, who do gorgeous prints for children’s bedrooms (as well as others!). They also offer a Fiver Friday deal, which is brilliant.

Gayle Mansfield Designs – there are some great, bold prints on this site but I have my eye on their amazing, personalised date prints. I’m planning on buying three to go side by side: the year of our wedding and our girls’ birth years.

The Little Jones have some amazing initial prints in gorgeous patterns that I will be getting for my girls.

All the prints I have bought have arrived unframed. I usually buy A4-sized prints and I’ve found the lovely Ribba frames from the famous yellow and blue Swedish company work well! Wilko‘s
grey frames also look great on the wall. Framing is another way to personalise the walls – shop around for some amazing frames to complete your look.

I know I’ve twittered on about small businesses based on the ‘gram, but there are also so many great buys on the high street. TK Maxx and Homesense are always a treasure trove of discovery, as you never know what unique pieces you may find (I could happily spend a day wandering the aisles). Next has some lovely prints and positive quotes too, which would look lovely and don’t
break the bank. For me, the fun is in the finding so I’m off to search those squares for more inspiration!
