Everything you need for a splash about

A few sunny days and here we are thinking about summer and swimming! You can’t blame us, it’s exciting!

An afternoon at the local pool with your family can be so much fun – or extremely stressful, depending on how well prepared you are. Here are some of our favourite buys for making the experience as relaxed, enjoyable and stress-free as possible.

Don’t even think about going swimming without a snuggly, hooded towel for your baby or toddler. These Morrck Splasha towel wraps are just perfect for after the pool, bath or beach.

When they start out, your child will probably feel more secure in the water with a floatation device to hold on to. The cleverly designed MANI by MiniMantas is the perfect choice, with its textured surface, curved side wings and easy-grip handle. It will take your little one from their first swimming days, right up until they are confident and skilled enough that it can become a play thing.

Ok, so swimming nappies are functional. But if style and function happen to combine to create a thing of beauty, who are we to argue? Check out these Liberty print swimming nappies from Rashhoodz in a range of designs including sea elements and Byron beauty. Never did we think swim nappies could be so damn cool.

If you’re going swimming with a baby who’s still in nappies, you’ll need a mat like the Konfidence Roll ‘N’ Go Neoprene Mat. It’s non-slip, lightweight, easy to wash, plus it dries in no time and rolls up in your bag like a yoga mat. Swimming pools aren’t always geared up for babies, and you’ll be grateful for something dry and clean to pop your little guy or girl on while you change them and get dressed yourself.

Already famous for its high-quality, reusable swim nappies, Bambino Mio has got it spot on again with its brilliant wet nappy bag. You pop the wet swimwear in it, fold and roll it (with one hand if need be!), and everything else in your bag stays dry. It’s totally waterproof and has a hanging loop so you can hang it on your pushchair.

Children’s eyes can be sensitive to chlorine and saltwater, so you might like to invest in a pair of goggles for them. Speedo's ones are up there with the best – and you can choose from a whole range of price points depending on your budget and requirements.

Most pools aren’t designed for babies and many little ones get super chilly in the water. Keep them toasty warm with a special Splash About Warm In One wetsuit. These award-winning, fleece-lined Warm In Ones are really great if your baby has sensitive skin or if your local pool is particularly cold. They’re also great on windy beaches!

If your baby protests about being in the water, you might need some toys to distract them, boost their confidence and help them feel relaxed and happy in the water. These Zoggs Nemo and Hank Soakers are great fun and can be used in the bath or pool.
